What's the Difference

Aesthetic medicine and esthetics (also spelled as "aesthetics") are two different fields that are often confused with each other.

Aesthetic medicine is a medical specialty that focuses on improving the appearance of individuals through medical procedures such as injections (Botox, Filler, PRP, PRF), laser treatments, and surgery. Aesthetic medicine practitioners are licensed medical professionals, such as dermatologists or plastic surgeons, who have received specialized training in cosmetic procedures.

On the other hand, esthetics is a branch of cosmetology that focuses on improving the appearance of the skin through non-medical treatments such as facials, chemical peels, and other skin care services. Estheticians are licensed professionals who have completed a specialized training program in esthetics and are trained to provide a range of skin care services.

In summary, aesthetic medicine is a medical specialty that focuses on cosmetic procedures to improve appearance, while esthetics is a branch of cosmetology that focuses on non-medical treatments to improve the appearance of the skin. Both these professions greatly complement each other but knowing the difference is greatly important. Here at longevity we have a skilled esthetician for your skin care needs and Kristen Dirks, FNP-BC as the aesthetic medical provider.
